Not that competitive a Listed race, and it was rendered weaker when hot favourite Kingsgate Prince pulled his way to the front after a couple of furlongs. He is a confirmed hold-up horse and that is not where one would have wanted him. Kingsgate Prince was unable to utilise his trademark turn of foot and he was headed with the best part of two furlongs to go, though he did stick on again to all but reclaim second. His run can be ignored and it should be a different story in the Jersey Stakes, although he will face stiffer opposition there.

That race is also the target for RACER FOREVER, who didn't get the run of the race when an eyecatcher behind Kingsgate Prince over six furlongs at Newbury on his reappearance. Enjoying the drying ground, he had the leader in his sights all the way this time and, once in front, was always in charge. He won in nice style, but the form looks nothing special and he will need to improve significantly for Royal Ascot.

Art Market, tried in blinkers, ran better than he had done on his reappearance and was clear of Dingaan, whose best effort came in a strongly run all-weather handicap, and the early leader Mutawajid, who has been disappointing since the Gimcrack.*Richard Hughes reported that Mutawajid did not handle the track.
